Please sign up two weeks prior to the start of class. You will receive a 15% discount on all supplies purchased for your class projects including equipment and sewing machines. If make-up classes are needed, they will be determined by the instructors.

T-Shirt Dress

Bring a cotton t-shirt or better yet…Bring your reverse-appliquéd t-shirt from Karen’s workshop to transform into a stylish dress that looks and feels good. You’ll also need one-half yard of cotton knit fabric. Karen can help you choose the right knit to combine with your t-shirt from our collection here at Les Fabriques.

For the very beginner, this class will teach you the fundamentals of garment construction. From pattern use, fabric grain, measuring, and machine use; form the foundation for a lifetime of creative sewing! You will make a simple little skirt or pj’s with an elastic waist band in this first class. Sign up for your 4 consecutive weeks to insure a class this summer vacation.

Introduction to Fashion Design: designing and drafting

Level: Beginner to Intermediate (must know basics of machine use)
Learn the basics of draping for fashion design and pattern drafting. Bring your design ideas and some muslin and learn how to manipulate the fabric like a sculpture! You will have a finished paper pattern for a bodice or skirt to make later.
Take this class over or continue with “Design the Dress” and “Sew the Dress” to start sewing up your designs in the fall.

Kid’s Button Down Casual Shirt

Make a casual shirt with a back yoke, convertible or stand up collar and learn how to make your buttonholes with Robyn’s help. This will be the perfect school shirt. Make it again with different fabric to dress it up for Sunday or special occasions.

Fashion Design 1 “Design the Dress”

Learn the basics of fashion design. Learn how drape muslin on a dress form for a simple bodice for a dress. Create your own paper pattern and write your instructions. Apply a $5 discount for signing up for the “Sew the Dress” session to follow.

Level: Intermediate (prerequisite is “Design the Dress”)
Make your simple and elegant dress design with muslin; learn how to line the bodice and gather or pleat the skirt; learn how to insert a zipper (regular or invisible zipper). We will choose materials appropriate for the design on the first day with teacher’s guidance. Take these classes over again to add to the complexity of the design.
